Expanding plastic tube, color varies, with polyester synthetic blend stretchable fabric overlay in a variety of colors. Overlay is connected by hook and loop fastener, providing for easy removal as needed. The cloth overlay provides a surface with traction, to allow the device to better grip the clothing when utilizing. The expanding tube is between 3/4” and 1” in diameter, providing a reasonable width to handle with hands, arms, or other dressing aids for best versatility.

A gentle assist for independent dressing at home, created and patented by an occupational therapist.

The Garment Glider is a simple, supportive dressing aid designed to help older adults — and anyone recovering from orthopedic procedures — get dressed with greater ease, comfort, and confidence. Whether mobility is limited by age, a recent hip replacement, shoulder surgery, arthritis, or balance challenges, the Garment Glider helps make daily dressing safer and more manageable.

At its core is an expanding plastic ring wrapped in a soft, comfortable cloth sleeve. Insert it into the waistband of disposable underwear or other snug garments, then gently pull outward to widen the opening. This controlled expansion gives you the space and stability needed to guide clothing onto the more difficult parts of your body, such as your arms and head for upper body clothing, or your feet, legs, and hips for your lower body clothing.

The Garment Glider supports independence — helping older adults stay at home longer, maintain dignity in daily routines, and reduce the physical effort required for dressing.

Key Benefits

• Ideal for Orthopedic Recovery: Perfect for individuals with limited bending or reaching after hip surgery, shoulder procedures, or other mobility challenges.
• Manual, Controlled Expansion: You pull outward to widen the garment just the right amount — no springs or automatic mechanisms.
• Gentle & Comfortable: The cloth sleeve surrounding the plastic ring provides a soft surface that allows the expander to grip clothing, which can be removed for easy cleaning to provide a hygienic experience.
• Protects Delicate Garments: Helps prevent ripping, especially with disposable underwear and other fragile materials.
• Caregiver-Friendly: Reduces strain for caregivers assisting with dressing, making the process smoother for everyone.

• Promotes Independence: Helps older adults dress more easily on their own, supporting aging in place.

How It Works

For Lower Body Clothing:
1. Insert the Garment Glider into the waistband of the garment.
2. Pull outward to gently widen the opening.
3. Hold the garment steady as you step in or pull it up. You may expand the product further as needed.
4. Once the clothing has passed the body parts that are difficult for you to manage, release and remove the Garment Glider.

For Upper Body Clothing:
1. Insert the Garment Glider into the neckline. Slide the ring gently inside the neck opening so the cloth-covered ring sits evenly around the inside edge.
2. Pull outward to widen the opening. This expands the neckline, giving you a larger, more stable opening.
3. Guide the garment over the head. The expanded opening reduces strain on the shoulders and neck.
4. Release and remove the Garment Glider by bringing it back over your head once it is out of the clothing, or removing from clothing and further expanding to let drop over your body.

Who I Am

Hello and welcome! I'm an occupational therapist who found this calling as a second career, and it’s been quite a rewarding journey. I’m driven by a simple goal: helping people do the things they need and want to do in life with confidence and ease.

My passion is working with older adults, and that passion inspired me to create a product specifically to support the geriatric community. But I’ve also seen firsthand how it can help anyone with other mobility challenges, such as when recovering from orthopedic surgeries, dealing with arthritis, facing autoimmune disorders, spinal cord injury, etc.

I truly believe that a little extra support can open the door to a safer, more independent daily routine. Thank you for visiting, and I welcome your thoughts and feedback to help support our communities together.

Sincerely,

Anna-Marie Brown, OTR/L, MSOT
